Looking after your lung health
Coal mining produces coal dust and dusts from other minerals, including silica. Repeated exposure to coal mine dust can put coal mine workers at risk of developing coal mine dust lung diseases (CMDLD).
If you smoke or vape, your risk of developing CMDLD is further increased. Smoking and vaping can also directly cause some lung diseases including COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
Reduced lung function can impact your ability to work and your quality of life.
It is important to understand what you can do to protect your lungs and decrease your risk of developing lung disease.
CS Health has produced a range of Respiratory Health Resources including videos, posters and other educational information to support workers to look after their lung health.
