Introduction
This course provides you with the skills and knowledge to enter a confined space, issue work permits, perform standby and confined space rescue.
Who should attend?
Individuals who may be required to work, issue permits, perform standby or rescue operations for confined spaces.

- How to identity workplace hazards, risks and advise others
- Implement and monitor risk control procedures
- Hazardous substances and atmospheres
- The operation of confined space equipment
- Working in a confined space
- Using and maintaining gas detection equipment
- Issuing and working in accordance with a permit
- Standby duties and responsibilities
- Confined space rescue planning and procedures
- Pre-don testing on breathing apparatus (CABA)
- Confined space rescue operations in breathing apparatus
- Post operation procedures
Credential issued
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units:
- MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
- MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis
- RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces
- MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres
- MSMPER202 Observe permit work
- MSMPER300 Issue work permits
- MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus
- PUASAR025 Undertake confined space rescue
Course delivery
This course is delivered through classroom-based training, desktop scenarios and practical exercises.
Assessment includes written, oral and practical tests.
Duration
Three days
Entry requirements
- There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
- You must be able to wear a harness for a vertical confined space entry.
- This course is based on a Certificate III level qualification. You should have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, activities and assessments.
- Mines Rescue recommends you be aware of the policies and procedures of your workplace before starting the course.

Refresher:
Mines Rescue recommends students complete refresher training every two years.
