Introduction

This hands-on course teaches you the skills to perform a vertical rescue using specific rescue equipment in an emergency situation.

Who should attend?

Individuals who may be required to perform vertical rescues as part of their duties, such as an emergency response team member, or those wishing to acquire new skills.

Credential issued

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
  • PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue                                                 
Course delivery

This course is delivered through classroom-based training, desktop scenarios, virtual reality and practical exercises.

Assessment includes written, oral and practical tests.

Duration

Five days

Entry requirements
  • There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
  • This course requires moderate fitness and physical capabilities. These include the ability to sit upright in a vertical rescue harness; full range of motion in knees, elbows and wrists; ability to bend and manoeuvre body with minimal difficulty; ability to use body strength to lift and lower yourself using rope systems and the ability to lift and carry a casualty on a stretcher.
  • This course is based on a Certificate III level qualification. You should have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, activities and assessments.
  • Mines Rescue recommends you be aware of the policies and procedures of your workplace before starting the course.

  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) number

Refresher:

Mines Rescue recommends a refresher of this course 3 yearly.

Students Under 18

Mines Rescue minimum age for enrolment is 15 years. If you are between the ages of 15 and 18, we require your parent or guardian to sign your Student Enrolment Form. Please contact a Mines Rescue Station directly to enquire or enrol into your course.

Visa Holders

Mines Rescue is not CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students) registered. If you are visiting Australia and hold a visa, please contact Mines Rescue directly prior to enrolling into any of our courses.
